The hospital that is planned in the EBFAM project is envisaged as a teaching hospital. This will be both for the patients staying in the hospital for treatment, and for the practitioners working in it.
Much of the AH ethos involves individuals taking responsibility for their own health outcomes by changing their diet, lifestyles or behaviour to a more appropriate health promoting system. However there is a lot of mis-information and mis-understanding about what really is beneficial to the individual, as opposed to the population as a whole.
A stay in the hospital will be a learning experience for each patient once the critical phase of their illness is over and recuperation begins. They will get individually targeted guidance on how to make the changes necessary to prevent their illness from re-occurring, as well as reducing the chances of developing other serious diseases. A hospital website will be maintained so that the information each individual learned during their stay will be accessible to them at any time in the future that they wish to refer to it.
The hospital intends to be a 'centre of excellence' where experts from many diverse AH fields will work together and exchange ideas. The accumulation and dissemination of scientific knowledge and clinical data will be a critical function of the hospital, and will be made available to other professionals and lay-persons via the internet. This will mean that the hospital will become an education resource in its own right and will strive to continually improve the treatment protocols which will be made available on the internet so that others may benefit from their experience.
Each practitioner employed in the hospital will be required to hold seminars from time to time, both for their peers and for groups of patients. Additionally, as it will be a teaching hospital, students and practitioners working on sabbatical may observe them in their daily work in order to learn from their expertise in a particular discipline.
